New Elementary School
Airbase Spangdahlem

To make the schools at Spangdahlem Airbase fit for the future, ICS was commissioned to plan an elementary school for 880 children in line with the 21st Century School concept. This pedagogical concept provides for an arrangement of grade-specific classrooms around a shared central learning area and enables instruction without frontal teaching.

The building site is located on a slight slope. The school elegantly blends into the topography. A special color concept inside and outside simplifies orientation in the building and also makes the learning areas readable from the outside.

In addition to the classrooms, the room program includes a library, a canteen with an adjoining kitchen, administrative and counseling rooms, and a gymnasium with adjoining rooms.
